There is a reason why the image of Guilin is located on the banknote of 20 yuan. The unique karst mountains growing out of the ground surrounded by Li Jiang river are one of the most recognizable landscapes of China. Unfortunately, it’s unusual to admire the idyllic views unobstructed by smog. Despite this, Guilin has become one of our favorite places in the country of The Red Dragon.

Although during the first visit in Guilin we resigned from a trip to the nearby village of Yangshuo, which is the base for exploring the mountains and tourist cruises on the river, the town itself didn’t let us down. In the evening we saw the Moon and Sun Pagodas, which are located near a small lake in the city centre and look even better with night lighting. During the day we were wandering around the Li River and looking at uniquely shaped mountains from a moon bridge.
GuilinWe had the opportunity to see Guilin two more times during our trips to Hong Kong. We strongly recommend traveling by train in this region of China. You can admire the mountains, tiny villages and rice fields through the window of a comfortable, fast train. The last time we went to Guilin during hitch-hiking back from Hong Kong, and the driver was so fond of us that he decided to take a ride to Yangshuo, so we could see the landscape from the Chinese banknotes. The weather was better than we could expect and the sun sines reflected between the mountains. Few tourists were cycling around the village. Apparently backpackers coming to Guilin helped to develop tourism in this region and more Chinese people speak English here.

Both Guilin and Yangshuo, you can visit in a few days, so if you spend time in a big city in China and you need to escape or you are hitch-hiking through the Guangxi Province, and you want to stop for a while, this is the perfect place. Fans of pomelo will also be delighted, citrus because Guilin is well known throughout China as a producer of these citrus and they are sold everywhere.

We've met each other during classes the least associated with our faculty at the university and it couldn't be an accident. Silly grinning at our English teacher telling about his hitch-hiking adventures, we haven't known yet that we will begin to travel together. The series of unfortunate events made us share a tent, a camera and memories. Now almost nothing can stop us from hitch-hiking.
